| Ashbury filmmaker John Haly has submitted a film to an innovative short film festival called NAFA
ACTION-FEST at Fox Studios. He was the Director of Photography and Editor for "Babes" which is a comedy role reversal set in a male bordello, where the males as "Babes" are selected by the female clients. He was keen to be involved once he read the witty script and enjoyed the collaborative nature of this project. He believed this film would be an audience favourite as evidenced by it's selection into the final Eight films shown at the "Awards night" a

He is a member of NAFA (Networking Action For Actors). This group was originally formed for pro-active actors, who met regularly for networking & education purposes. In recent times, NAFA evolved to include writers & filmmakers, now collaborating with actors on dynamic film projects. This festival, NAFA ACTION-FEST, was specifically created to showcase these combined talents.
A unique feature of this fest is that after each screening, ALL cast & crew were invited to the front to answer questions from the audience. This interactive "Show & Tell" format has proved extremely popular by creating active learning opportunities for all attendees.
In addition, films are both industry-judged & peer-reviewed, with awards for the best categories. Note that all films had to have the signature item "Action" and be under 8 mins.
NAFA ACTION-FEST was at the Sydney Comedy Store, FOX STUDIOS on Wed 25th & Thurs 26th
August 2004, starting at 5.30pm.
One of the eight finalists filmed and edited by Halyucinations Studios shown on both Tuesday & Wednesday nights was the film
called "Babes".
The synopsis of the film submitted to the festival by the Director of Photography and Video Editor, from Halyucinations Studios was: Boys in Bordellos are believed Bawdy, Boisterous and Bad Blokes, But bizarre, bemusing and barely believable if the "Babes" are a bevy of Boys? And what if the clients are predominantly the fast moving corporate power dressing businesswomen of the 21st century? "Babes" is a role reversal film shot in an inner city Bordello run by a "madam" named Mr Marshal who caters to the whims of female clients. He has Asian "Babes", Young "Babes", Big "Babes", Well heeled "Babes" but all his "Babes" are blokes. The Story of "Babes" is about Mr Marshal trying out the new look "I.T." "Babes" because his competition down the road is having great success with the "geek-look" bloke. It’s Marcus’s first day on the job as an I.T. Babe and it doesn’t look like there is much initial interest. |
