Why does Disabled Dancing sound improbable? |
|
Glass Ceilings
"What I believed from my own experience, and may be the case for the disabled community, is that they, more often than not, grow to believe in "Glass ceilings" beyond which they believe they can not extend themselves.
These limiting ceilings may be the creations of their community, family or fellow's perceptions that they accept without question. So we continues to struggle with a limited vision of the future. An issue not limited to the disabled community.
For example a man without legs may be considered a fairly solid ceiling for "Walking". Yet when the UK Dance Company CANDOCO toured here some years ago, many witnessed some incredible dancing from a man without legs. CANDOCO is a professional touring dance company in the UK that specialises in dance styles suited to the physically disabled.
Whatever be those impossible dreams for any person, I would like to see them seek joy and hope beyond or in spite of, a fixation on some inability. To break the Glass Ceiling and to reach for the Stars.
It is with such thoughts in mind, that I have called this Project "THE STARS ARE NOT TOO FAR"
